Nomacorc awarded SITEVI 2009 Gold Medal for Innovation
PreSens Fibox 3 LCD Oxygen Analyzer Recognized by the Prestigious International Trade Show's Panel of Experts

For Immediate Release: Zebulon, N.C. (September 17, 2009) - Nomacorc, the world's leading producer of alternative wine closures, has won the Gold Medal for Innovation at SITEVI 2009 for its revolutionary oxygen analyzer, the PreSens Fibox 3 LCD, which uses luminescence technology to measure oxygen in bottled wine. This recognition highlights the critical leadership role that Nomacorc plays in helping the wine industry understand the significance of oxygen management and ultimately control oxygen in wine.

For several decades, the SITEVI Innovation Awards have recognized the most innovative products, services and techniques in the vine/wine and fruit/vegetable sectors. The 2009 panel of judges for this major international competition, consisting of international experts from the world of research, higher education and development, were won over by the innovative appeal and the vast potential for applications of the Nomacorc PreSens for all involved in the wine industry. It was for this reason that they singled out Nomacorc from the 80 nominations for the competition.

"This non-invasive process, which measures dissolved oxygen incredibly quickly at any stage in the wine-making process, struck us as incredibly effective. It will be of great use to oenologists responsible for making wine both in terms of assessing their processes and in terms of monitoring the quality of their wine," member of the panel of judges and Technological Advisor for SITEVI Jean-Bernard Montalescot enthusiastically explained.

"The PreSens is the direct result of Nomacorc's research and dedication to oxygen management," said Dr. Olav Aagaard, Nomacorc's director of global research, oxygen management. "It was made available to the wine market so that oxygen could easily become tangible and quantifiable for those working in the wine industry."

"We are delighted to have won the Gold Medal for Innovation," continued Dr. Aagaard. "It motivates us to continue in the same vein. The PreSens is just the first step. It won't be long before the wine world sees other tools."

Nomacorc has ushered in a new order with this cutting-edge device, which non-invasively and non-destructively measures the total concentration of oxygen throughout the bottling process, as well as at other stages of the wine-making process.

The PreSens Fibox 3 LCD consists of an oxygen analyzer, which is equipped with an optical fibre that carries the light to a pad, which reacts to oxygen. The corresponding luminescence of the sensor is directly proportional to the concentration of oxygen in the area around the sensor. The small sensors are easy to use in any kind of bottling conditions, and they react incredibly accurately to variations in oxygen concentration. They can be used to measure dissolved oxygen as well as oxygen present in the bottle neck.

There is no longer a need to open a bottle to analyze it, and no chemical reaction is required to determine the concentration of oxygen, unlike the well-known electro-chemical method, which is used by other analyzers. In addition, the PreSens Fibox is portable and can be easily and practically used on bottling lines and in wine cellars.
